PESHAWAR: A remote controlled improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Nawagai Tehsil of Bajaur Agency left a woman dead and two others injured on Thursday.

The blast occurred in Karkanri area of Nawagai, killing a woman, Gul Pari, while her minor daughter Laila and a passersby Siraj were injured.

Siraj, son of a peace committee member Tehseenullah, was said to be the apparent target of the attackers.

Bajaur, a tribal region in Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), is governed by tribal laws.

An extremist insurgency led by the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) plagues the region and the area is known to be infested with militants, including those from Al Qaeda and other armed extremist organisations.
