LAHORE: The Punjab government has finalised vice chancellors of five public sector universities.

A notification in this regard is expected to be issued soon after formal approval of the governor/chancellor.

It is learnt Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid has been appointed as vice chancellor of the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore. Dr Niaz Ahmad has got the post of VC of UET, Taxila, while Dr Zia Qayyum has been appointed as VC of the University of Gujrat; Qaiser Mushtaq of the Government College University, Faisalabad, and Dr Muhammad Ali Shah as VC of the Islamia University, Bahawalpur.

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had, last Wednesday, conducted interviews of the candidates selected by Vice-Chancellors’ Search Committee, headed by LUMS Chancellor Syed Babar Ali.

Meanwhile, the shortlisted candidates for the selection of chairman of the Punjab Higher Education Commission, which is being renamed as Tertiary Education Commission, are waiting for the chief minister’s decision or an opportunity of being interviewed by the chief minister with their fingers crossed.
