Two children hurt in attack on ANP leader’s house

PESHAWAR/CHARSADDA: Two children sustained injuries when unidentified motorcyclists hurled a hand grenade on the house of an Awami National Party leader in the provincial capital on Monday.

An official at the Pandu police station said house of ANP local leader Haji Noor Jan located in Shaheedabad area was attacked. He added that two children, including Nizam Khan, 9, a close relative of Noor Jan, and a passerby, Lalzada, 10, sustained injuries in the explosion. The injured children were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital where doctors provided them medical treatment.

FIR of the incident was not registered till filing of this report.

In Charsadda, A CD market in Umerzai bazaar was closed after a threatening letter from unknown miscreants was received by the shopkeepers here on Tuesday.

The CD sellers got a threatening letter asking them to close their shops or switch over to other business; otherwise, they would suffer dire consequences.

“There are about 25 CD shops at the market and all were shut down after the threat,” said a shopkeeper.

The market had been attacked twice in the past, killing one person and destroying several shops inflicting heavy losses on the businessmen.

The shopkeepers alleged that the local administration had failed to provide security to them and protect their businesses. They said the market would remain closed till security was assured to them by the district administration.
