India arrests suspect in plot to kill Bangladesh PM, opposition leader

GUWAHATI: Indian police have arrested a 36-year-old woman suspected of being involved in a plot to assassinate the prime minister of Bangladesh and carry out a coup, police said on Saturday.
The arrest comes days after Indian security officials said they had uncovered a plot by members of the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen, accused of carrying out scores of attacks in Bangladesh, targeting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The group also planned to assassinate the country’s main opposition leader, Khaleda Zia, Indian officials said. Hasina and Zia have dominated Bangladeshi politics for more than a decade.

Pallab Bhattacharjee, additional director general of police in the northeastern Indian state of Assam, said the woman had been also charged with collecting arms with an intention of waging war against India.
“She has been arrested by the special operations unit of the Assam Police and will be produced in court today,” he said.
The alleged assassination conspiracy was discovered after two members of the outlawed group were killed in an explosion while building homemade bombs at a house in West Bengal in eastern India last month.
Indian police say the militants were Bangladeshis and were using India as a safe haven to plan the attacks.
Mainly-Muslim Bangladesh has suffered three major army coups and two dozen smaller rebellions since gaining independence from Pakistan in 1971.

Indian intelligence is a joke, they don't even know they are heavily penetrated by all other agencies. Some poor Muslim women has been used as a ploy, to play the sound bites, not one foreign country has taken it seriously. That says it all.

@Zak : Clearly you have no idea of the facts.The intelligence initially came from Bangladeshi side. Indian side responded and investigated and this is a serious collaboration between the government agencies. Indian intelligence has been working on a report that will soon be submitted to the Bangladeshi side.

@Rao : We never believe these stories,as for proof of your soul, so many innocents were arrested in India by these agaencies to be later freed by courts as framed. So to please at least one neighbour, they must have created all this drama to impress Bangladeshi people. We have seen similar false implications in hundreds in Kashmir also. So please always take these stories with a pinch of salt like the false stories put on Indian media.

It is a ridiculous story. I cannot see who will kill both the leaders. It must be a managed story or drama.
Strictly speaking, Bangladesh does not probably have any prime minister except an illegal usurper. She may be inviting someone's wrath to get killed because she practically closed all avenues of democratic transition and justice in the country but the claim of an Indian woman planning it is outrageously outlandish. By the wyay, there exists a widespread rumour in Bangladesh that the security guards of Sheikh Hasina does not speak Bengali, they are all Indians and that she does not rely on Bangladeshi security agency and personnel. What India is doing in Bangladesh by imposing its 2 cents worth of puppet regime against the will of the entire nation will eventually spell out disaster for its foreign policy in the long run.

The end of 35 years Communist rule in West Bengal began when then CM of WB Mr. Bhattacharya admitted the role of various madrassas of West Bengal in training the terrorists. However, it was CPM who created West Bengal a heaven for Bangladeshi Muslims for vote. The current Govt. overtook CPM in appeasing Bangladeshi Muslims - just for vote. The difference between CPM and the cureent TMC Govt. is while CPM turned a blind eye on all the activities happening in madrassas the TMC helped them to flourish. No action was taken on any of the madrassas by successive Govt. for the fear of losing votes. This situation was on card for a long long time.
