LAHORE: A senior engineer of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) was shot at and critically wounded by two unidentified assailants outside a mosque in Nizam Block, Iqbal Town, on Friday.

Scores of Lesco employees and union activists lodged a protest outside the Lahore Press Club following the shooting.

Iqbal Town police said Asadullah was outside the Masjid Usman when two people on a motorcycle opened fire at him. Asadullah, who suffered two bullets, was taken to Shaikh Zayed Hospital by his driver where he was operated upon.

Soon after the shooting, senior Lesco officials visited Asadullah who is currently posted superintendent engineer in the Lesco second circle. His condition is stated to be stable. Police ruled out the aspect of robbery or sectarian shooting at initial stage.

Two gunmen took away Rs70,000 and a mobile phone from Mushtaq in his shop in the Misri Shah police jurisdiction. They shot at and injured him on resistance.

Three gunmen barged into the house of Iqbal Khan in Youhanabad and took away cash and valuables all worth Rs670,000.

Some robbers stormed into the house of Liaqat in the Johar Town police jurisdiction and escaped after looting cash and valuables all worth Rs500,000.

Robbers burst into the house of Riazuddin on Khiaban-i-Jinnah in the Sattokatla police jurisdiction and fled after looting cash and valuables all worth Rs500,000.

Some robbers targeted the house of Ashraf near Murghi Khana Stop in the North Cantonment police jurisdiction and plundered cash and valuables all worth Rs400,000.

Two robbers approached Naeem and his family in the Misri Shah police jurisdiction and deprived them of cash and valuables all worth Rs300,000.
