GUJAR KHAN: The dual carriageway (N-5) between Gujar Khan and Rawalpindi has become dilapidated due to the lack of maintenance, said the road users.

They said the National Highway Authority (NAH) developed the single track G.T. Road into a dual carriage a few years ago but ignored its maintenance despite receiving heavy toll tax from the motorists.

It has been noticed that curb stones installed along the carriage way have broken into pieces and were hindering the smooth flow of traffic.

On the other hand, the Guliana Mor Chowk in the city has seen scores of fatal accidents. The residents and the road users have been demanding the installation of cat eyes and speed breakers on the spot but to no avail.

The U-turn in front of the THQ hospital is another spot where frequent accidents occur.

The National Highways and Motorway Police have informed the authorities of the NHA to close this U-turn.
