Delhi Jama Masjid's Shahi Imam attacked

NEW DELHI: The Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid, Syed Ahmed Bukhari, was attacked on Sunday by a man who tried to set him on fire during evening prayers, police and witnesses said.
The man was immediately nabbed by security officers and later handed over to police custody.
“The incident took place when the Imam was leading the evening prayer. A man suddenly threw a plastic bottle which had kerosene at him from behind. The attacker was caught by Imam’s PSOs. He has been taken to the nearby police station,” The Hindu quoted the Imam’s official spokesperson as saying.
The attacker, identified as Kamaluddin, is reported to be a resident of West Bengal.
The Additional Commissioner of Police (Central) Alok Kumar said that the man is being questioned by authorities.
No further details were provided by officials as to the motive behind the attack.

This might be a very cheap attempt by some politician to ignite Hindu-Muslim riots in Delhi ahead of Delhi assembly elections and to polarize votes. Lets wait for more details on this.

The Imam himself is a very controvertial figure, engaged in serious family feud with real brother, always hobnobbing with contrast political parties for personal gains. He is a man of high nuisance value.

Lot is happening in the Muslim world. In most of the cases Muslims are killing fellow Muslims. It is happening almost every hour in Pakistan. Let us await full investigations. West Bengal has become a hotbed of sectarian conflicts. Recently huge cache of arms and bombs recovered.

Such incidents must be dealt with a heavy hand.West Bengal is fast becoming sanctuary for extremists due to vote bank politics of TMC.This has time and again drawn complaints from neighbouring Bangladesh as the extremists target Khalida Zia government too. The sanctuaries need to be destroyed to nip the problem in the bud.
