SHEIKHUPURA: Polling closed at 5 PM on Thursday for by-election in Sheikhupura’s PP-162 constituency.

There are 137,000 registered voters in the constituency. The seat had fallen vacant after the death of PML-N MPA Khurram Gulfam.

The Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) had awarded the ticket to the late MPA’s nephew, Hassaan Riaz, while the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had reposed trust in Usman Nisar Pannu.

The Pakistan Muslim League - Quaid (PML-Q) and some religio-political parties are supporting Pannu. Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has not fielded any candidate as its central committee had announced a boycott of the polls.

Independent candidate Chaudhry Manzoor is also standing in the by-election.

The election commission had established 176 polling stations in the constituency, 17 of which were declared sensitive.
