KARACHI: Despite non-availability of Euro II diesel in Pakistan, a leading Japanese heavy vehicle assembler has unveiled a complete range of Euro II compliant vehicles.

Managing Director Hinopak Motors Limited on October 22 introduced Euro II vehicles at the company’s head office in Karachi which include rigid trucks, prime movers and buses, calling them ‘green range’ of commercial vehicles.

The company had also informed all the stock exchanges regarding upgradation of its product line with Euro II emission standards. These vehicles will formally be launched country-wide from Thursday.

Senior General Manager Strategic Business and Planning Naushad Riaz told Dawn that with this introduction, real benefits in terms of better fuel efficiency, emission with reduced sulphur content will not be achieved in total. Main reason for this is the availability of required grade of diesel in our market on which there is a complete silence on the availability of required grade from the oil refineries.

“This is a high time for the oil refineries to come forward and inform the auto industry as to when the required grade of diesel will be available to reap the real benefit from these high tech vehicles available in the Pakistani market,” he added.

Earlier other assemblers also offered Euro II compliant vehicles in their product range but at present none are offering complete range of trucks, buses and prime movers with Euro 11 compliance standards, he said.
