PESHAWAR: At least two security personnel were killed and three others injured Wednesday in a rocket attack on a fort in Dattakhel area of North Waziristan Agency.

Official sources said militants fired five rockets on the security forces' camp which resulted in the death of two personnel while injuring three others. Security personnel responded to the attack with retaliatory firing.

Meanwhile, military gunship helicopters targeted suspected militant hideouts in Shalobar and Sipah areas of Bara. Casualties were feared.

The information, however, could not be verified independently as access for journalists is restricted in the area.

The plains of Bara hold strategic significance for militant groups as they connect the agency to the outskirts of Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

In a separate incident, two children died as a mortar shell hit a house in the Sipah area.
