Aqeel, Hamza advance in ranking tennis

KARACHI: Aqeel Shabbir and Malik Hamza recorded convincing victories in men’s singles first-round matches in the Abdul Majeed Trophy Ranking Tennis Championship at the Union Club here on Monday.

Aqeel thrashed Haseeb Ismail and recorded a convincing 6-1, 6-0 win to confirm his presence in the second round of the event while Hamza registered an immaculate 6-0, 6-0 triumph against Aamir Tunio.

In the juniors U-17 singles quarter-finals, Asad Khan overpowered Nasrullah Khan 6-2, 6-0 while Noman Aftab dispatched Sahibzada Mubeen 6-0, 6-3.

Results: Men’s singles first round: Aqeel Shabbir bt Haseeb Ismail 6-1, 6-0; Malik Hamza bt Aamir Tunio 6-0, 6-0; Bilal Jawwad walkover against Mubashir Junior.

U-17 singles quarter-finals: Asad Khan bt Nasrullah Khan 6-2, 6-0; Noman Aftab bt Sahibzada Mohammad Mubeen 6-0, 6-3.

U-15 singles first round: Raza Sawani bt Romio Taleja 6-0, 6-0; Nasrullah Khan bt Aneesh Kumar 6-0, 6-0; Nouman Aftab bt Bilal Imran Lohya 6-4, 6-3.

U-13 singles first round: Muhammad Hamza bt Ghufran Faiz 6-2, 6-3 Shahzil Malik bt Kirtan Mukesh 6-0, 6-0.
