MIRPURKHAS: A homeopath belonging to the Ahmadi community was killed at his clinic in Malhi Colony on Monday night in what appeared to be a targeted attack, police said on Tuesday.

SHO Mehran police station Lutufullah Leghari told Dawn that the relatives of the deceased took his body to Rabwah in Chiniot district of Punjab for burial on Tuesday morning.

Dr Mubashir Khoso, 48, sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the attack which police sources believed was carried out by bearded gunmen who sped away on motorbikes following the killing.

The killing came as a grim reminder of a similar attack on Dr Abdul Mannan Siddiqui, who also belonged to the Ahmadi community, in a Mirpurkhas hospital in September 2008.

The body was shifted to the Mirpurkhas Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination before being handed over to the victim’s relatives, the Mehran police said.

The victim was a resident of Satellite town, where he lived with his wife and a child, while most of his relatives had moved to Germany.

No case was registered till the filing of this report on Tuesday evening. When asked about it, the SHO quoted the victim’s family as saying that they would lodge an FIR after the burial. “So far no suspect has been arrested for the killing,” said the SHO, explaining that a proper investigation and legal proceedings would begin after the registration of a case.

Sources said the victim had shifted from Punjab to Mirpurkhas between 10 and 15 years ago and since the killing of Dr Siddiqui he had been privately looking after the affairs of the Ahmadi community in Mirpurkhas.
