KARACHI: The caretaker of a shrine survived an armed attack in which one of his guards was killed and another wounded in Manghopir on Friday, police said.

They added that Jan Mohammed aka Khan Baba was on his way from Manghopir to the Saki Hasan area when gunmen intercepted his vehicle near the Qalandria Hotel and sprayed it with bullets.

Jan Mohammed remained unhurt while his two guards suffered bullet wounds. They were taken to a private hospital where one of them, identified as Bashir Ahmed, was pronounced dead.

Manghopir SHO Ghulam Hussain Korai said that they were collecting information about the incident as the area, where the incident took place, came in the jurisdiction of three different police stations.

Another policeman killed

A policeman was shot dead in a targeted attack in Orangi Town on Friday.

The Pirabad police said armed motorcyclists targeted Assistant Sub-Inspector Babar Ali when he came out of a mosque after offering prayers in Orangi-4.

He sustained critical bullet wounds and was taken to the Abbasi Shaeed Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Three youths found shot dead in Mauripur

Three young men were found shot dead in a Mauripur area on Friday, police said.

They said that the bullet-riddled bodies were recovered from a storm-water drain near Mauripur Truck Stand. The corpses were shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.

They were identified as Idris Ayub, Waqar Aziz and Feroz.

The victims were kidnapped from Juman Shah Plot in Lyari three days ago, said SSP-City Sheeraz Nazeer.

He suspected that Lyari gangsters might have involved in the murder of the three men.

However, he added that the police were collecting information about the victims.

Two wounded ‘JI men’ die

Two supporters of the Jamaat-i-Islami, who were wounded in the Thursday night attack in Surjani Town, died during treatment at a private hospital in the small hours of Friday.

Officials said that three young men were sitting on the pavement of an estate agency near a JI office in Surjani Town’s Sector-7-D when four assailants riding on two motorcycles and wearing helmets emerged there, fired indiscriminately and rode away.

SSP-West Irfan Baloch said that they sustained critical wounds and were moved to a private hospital on Stadium Road where doctors declared Ashraf Salam dead.

Akhter Ansari and Salman Matin died during treatment. The victims belonged to the JI, added the SSP.

But a JI spokesperson said they were their supporters.
