PESHAWAR: Unidentified attackers killed a police official of prison department near his residence in Shah Qabool area in Peshawar city on Wednesday.

According to local police, the victim, Haider Ali, who belonged to Shia community, was attacked by unidentified persons when he was on way to a milk shop. “The investigation is underway and it is yet to be ascertained if the attackers were riding a motorbike or walking on foot,” an official of Shah Qabool police station said.The victim, he said, was personal assistant of the IG Prison, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in Peshawar. The official said that a case against unknown accused had been registered at the police station under terrorism law.

The incident caused inconvenience to people in the city area where police checked motorbikes at the entry and exit points and dozens of people and their bikes were taken into custody for verification of documents.

In another case, unidentified terrorists hurled a hand grenade at the residence of a health department official Sher Gul at Hayatabad phase-3, which caused minor damage to the house.

An official of the Hayatabad police referring to the statement of the complainant said that at around 10am unknown persons threw a bomb into his residence from the nearby street, but his family escaped unhurt.

He said that unknown persons were demanding Rs4 million from him as extortion and he had refused to pay the amount. The police, however, said that it was a small improvised explosive device. A case against unidentified attackers was registered at the Hayatabad police station. — Bureau Report
