GUJRAT: PML-Q leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi says the rulers have done nothing for safety from flooding whereas we had constructed 28 small dams only in Pothohar area during our five-year tenure and made reservoirs all over Punjab for storing floodwater.

He said this while talking to reporters after the distribution of ration among them flood victims here on Monday.

He said ‘go Nawaz go’ slogans everywhere showed that the people had expressed their no-confidence against the Sharif brothers.

Mr Elahi said that 90 per cent problems in the country were due to the Sharif brothers and the people were praying for an end to their rule because of dearness, unemployment and now the massive devastation caused by the floods.

“We spent Rs4 billion every year on the construction and repairs of protective embankments. Due to reconstruction of the Taunsa Barrage, at least 11 lakh cusecs of water had passed through it easily, but the Nawaz government has entirely ignored repairs and renovation which has led to sinking of Punjab,” he said.

“Our government paid half bills of agricultural tubewells and provided fertilizers at cheaper rates,” he said.

The PML-Q leader said the flood victims were not getting medicines due to the wrong policies of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
