Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan has decided to undertake detailed research on the Indus Valley Civilization, for his upcoming film, Mohenjo Daro, reported Hindustan Times.
Mohenjo Daro, meaning Mound of the Dead in Sindhi, is a lost civilization that was abandoned in 19th century BCE. The city’s ruins lie in the Larkana district of Sindh, and are a designated Unesco World Heritage Site since 1980.
Hrithik, who isn’t very familiar with the subject, has decided to meet archaeologists to learn about the civilization.
"Hrithik has decided to meet archaeologists to learn about the civilization in more detail. He wants to know more about the people, their behaviour and some striking features about them that would help him portray his character authentically," said a source close to the actor.
The star is currently busy promoting his next film, Bang Bang, and plans to begin his research once the film releases early next month.
"He is planning to do proper research of his own for a month once his next film releases," confirmed Hrithik's spokesman.
Directed by Gowariker, the film stars Hrithik and new comer Pooja Hegde in an epic adventure love story set at the time of the Indus Valley Civilization.
Given the settings, the movie is likely to be a sweeping historical extravaganza, along the lines of Jodhaa Akbar and Lagaan.
Mohenjo Daro is set to go into production in South Africa from October 2014.

Both the news that a film on Mohenjedaro is being made, and that Bollywood is getting involved with actual locales in Mohanjedaro, which is in present day Pakistan is great news. Hope many more such films are made, and bring the two countries closer.

As an Indian I am very upset about the fact that it will not be a period era movie that bespeaks a lot about history. At the end of the day it will be another stupid love story with songs and dances. Hmm, the last time I checked the heritage site is in Pakistan and not South Africa. I am going to pass on this movie.

It would have been better to shoot the film 'Moen Jo Daro' in Sindh. However, the problem is that Sindh is once again becoming 'Moen Jo Daro' and Hrithik is afraid of the situation ... :-)

Looking forward to see how they twist Pakistani history with another love story and dance numbers. Not that I watch Indian movies as they are not compatible to our culture. I have met Indians who feel the same as well.

Dont be naive Pakistanis and our media specially English media. It is attempt to hijack Pakistani heritage. Two nation theory is not based on religion by archaeology. Our ancestors, Pakistani ancestors build the great Indus. This needs to protected jealously , just like Egyptian do with Nile.

A period film and not being shot in its rightful locale! The producer doesnt know the kind of audience these type of movies draw. They will be more discerning and the curious lot. Not those whistling and merry kind of youngsters. If there is a miss on authenticity he ll lose at the box office

Except monuments built by the Great Egyptians NOTHING is left of that civilization today.Culture, tradition customs religion all over run and destroyed by the invaders who have imposed their own every thing on Egypt..

We Indian,Pakistanis, Bangladeshis are basically same people, out roots are same.

I was born in Karachi (British India) in 1939 and all my parents, grandparents and even great grandparents were from Karachi. I went to school with my neighbours children, who were Hindus and even teachers were Hindus. We lived and played together. Sometime I still remember them a
lot. The partition of India was a very great blunder we did. May God bless everyone.

The people who built pyramids in Egypt where not destroyed by the invaders but by the environmental elements. The biggest of all was drought, and plaques.
The people of Indus valley left the region because of high floods , which brought mud and silt to the extent that it burried entire cities. The problem which we are witnessing now.

Let him take 3 courses in archeology before making a movie - with no sense of history or archeology techniques, he will mae a mess of it. And there is nothing Pakistani about Moehn-jedaro. If anything, it could have been a precursor to the Indian civilization, the precursor to Aryan cultures.
Not that muslims in Pakistan want anything to do with hinduism, aryan cultures or anything historic - Pakistani believe their history begins after invasion of India by muslims -everything before that is not worth studying or even mentioning. Just look at reports on Pakistani text books - no room for anything except Islam and muslims.

That king priest famous statue of mohenjodaro is wearing sindhi ajrak shawal, which to date is famous not only in sindh but all over Pakistan. Pakistan is rhe custodian of great Indus country you like it or not doesn't matter a bit. For you lot in east please find your roots in ganges civilization. You may find some sense of belonging there rather poking nose in matters which doesnt conern you.

@BRR lets make one thing very clear. Indus was never hindu by any streatch of imagination and its been proven by archeology. Pagans at very best. Most probably the people of Noah. Pakistan and its people are the focal point from where the rest of humanity came from. Pakistan and its people doesnt belong to anyone infact all other races belong to us by the virtue of indus. Though I would agree that our pseudo mulla tried their best to associate pakistan with arab middle east. Its a shame they never bothered studying Indus because if they had, they would have come to realise that arabs themselves like many other races got roots here in Indus or Pakistan. Aristotle mentioned that Hebrew ancestors came from one of the Indus tribes and were dislodged after the great flood. Quran mentioned that hebrew ancestors were on the arc of noah. Its all boils down to indus connection to Noah PBUH. It is also worth mentioning here that noah is perhaps the only prophet mentioned in Hinduism. They remember him by name Manu. Same flood story. From them to remember him is a very clear sign as they are the closet to Pakistan proximity wise. Ancient Pakistan is such a fascinating phenomenon.
