ISLAMABAD: Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) leader Farooq Sattar on Wednesday said party chief Altaf Hussain wanted to pull the country out of its current political crisis, DawnNews reported.

Speaking to media representatives after a meeting of the party’s delegation with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Sattar said that the country was incapable of bearing a political breakdown and that things should be taken forward in the greater interest of the nation.

He said that the MQM always strived to act as a bridge between conflicting parties in order to tone down political ups and downs, adding that it was also the party’s intention behind the meeting.

Responding to a question regarding the dismissal of the government, Sattar said that the party did not dwell on speculation and that all political parties need to work in harmony in order to strengthen the state and to resolve the challenges confronting it.

He added that the MQM deemed it pertinent that political stakeholders should remain in contact vis-à-vis the issue.

MQM delegation meets PM

A delegation of the MQM earlier in the day met with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the Prime Minister House to discuss the ongoing political deadlock.

The delegation comprised of senior MQM members, led by Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, while MQM's parliamentary leader in the National Assembly Dr Farooq Sattar , Haider Abbas Rizvi and Babar Ghouri were also present.

The premier was flanked by Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif and Federal Information Minister Pervez Rashid.

During the meeting, the ongoing political crisis was the main topic of discussion.

The MQM delegation brought forth a set of suggestions formulated by party chief Altaf Hussain at the meeting to overcome the current political deadlock.

The recommendations, also addressing the option of resilience for the demands of the protesters in D-chowk, were presented to the prime minister.

MQM leaders have recently been in contact with leadership of major political parties including Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), Pakistan Peoples Party etc.

Earlier, MQM’s Sattar had said that the MQM was ready to play the role of a facilitator and would make every effort to save the ‘democratic system’ from getting derailed.
