PESHAWAR: Two people were killed when armed men opened fire on a car on Kohat Road on the outskirts of the provincial capital on Sunday.

Badhber police said the car (BA9561/Karachi) was attacked near Spin Jumaat area while on way from Peshawar city to Mattani Maryamzai area. Two people -- Amjad Khan and Aurangzeb -- sustained serious bullet injuries, and were taken to Lady Reading Hospital, where they succumbed to their wounds.

The other inmates of the car escaped unhurt, who later informed the police about the incident and nominated the accused in the FIR. Police registered case against five people -- Abdur Rehman, Bakht Munir, Khaistan Munir and two others -- and started making efforts to arrest them.

A police official said the accused persons had an old enmity with the deceased and were after them for some time.

Meanwhile, several people were arrested at Haji Camp bus stand on Sunday for selling adulterated mobil oil by using names of different multinational companies at exorbitant rates.

A local administration official said the arrested persons also disclosed names of many others involved in the illegal business in Peshawar, and that police were raiding different areas to arrest them as well.

He said two persons, Umer Shah and his brother Syed Shah were arrested from Rasheed Garhi while busy filling substandard mobil oil in cans.
