MANSEHRA: Three armed robbers deprived a family of cash, gold ornaments and other valuables in Mansehra city on Wednesday.

The incident occurred in Mohallah Khan Bahadar at about 1:00pm when three masked robbers barged into the house of Dr Anwar and after locking his wife and daughter-in-law in a room decamped with gold ornaments, cash, laptop, two mobile phone sets and other valuables.

According to family sources, the robbers, speaking Hindko, threatened both the women to keep silent otherwise they would be killed.

The city police registered an FIR and have started investigation.

In another incident, a man was shot dead outside his house in Battal area. Battal police said that assailants knocked at the door and when Mohammad Naeem came out of his house they opened indiscriminate fire on him. Mr Naeem died on the spot.

The police have started investigation after registering FIR of the case.

BHU, SCHOOLS DEMANDED: The people of Hungrai area of Balakot have demanded of the government to set up a basic health unit (BHU) and schools in their area.

“People are dying on way to hospitals in Balakot and Mansehra in emergency cases and women are the worst sufferers. Despite taking up the issue with local lawmakers and health authorities we are still deprived of health services in Hungrai,” said Abdul Qayyum, a local elder, while speaking at a press conference in Balakot on Wednesday.

A group of local people led by Mr Qayyum apprised mediapersons of their ordeals because of lack of civic services in the area.

“The main bridge on stream that linked both sides of Hungrai was swept away in 1992 flash floods, but it could not be reconstructed as yet and people are passing through the dangerous stream risking their lives,” he said.

He said that despite moving applications and meeting with local lawmakers their demand for construction of bridge and BHU was not taken seriously. He said that the only primary school in Hungrai was destroyed in October 2005 earthquake, but children here were still getting education under tents.

Mr Qayyum warned that if their demands were not accepted they would block Balakot-Naran road anytime in the coming weeks.
