KARACHI: Ghazanfar Ali Kazmi, the SHO of Preedy police station, was shot dead in Garden area on Tuesday night.

According to police, gunmen attacked him near Anklesaria Hospital when he was going in his private car to his home in Garden police headquarters. He was taken to the Civil Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

The victim had taken part in the 1992 operation against criminals in Karachi, DIG Barrister Abdul Khalique Shaikh said. He said the investigators were also looking into a possible sectarian aspect of the murder.

The South Karachi DIG revealed that the SHO had also been under threats because of his active part in the ongoing operation against criminals in the city.

Earlier in the night, a 45-year-old police official was shot dead and two passersby injured in an attack in Quaidabad area.

According to police, Assistant Sub-Inspector Jamil was sitting with his friends near his home at Gul Ahmed Chowrangi when men on a motorcycle opened fire on him and fled.
