KARACHI: The federal government has contacted the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leadership and formally invited them to meet Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad on Thursday.

A statement issued from MQM’s London Secretariat on Tuesday said that the party accepted the invitation and a high-level delegation would meet Prime Minister Sharif on Thursday noon at PM House in the federal capital.

Meanwhile, MQM’s Rabita (coordination) Committee has also convened an important meeting of all party parliamentarians here on Wednesday evening in view of prevailing political situation in the country.

It may be mentioned that in a recent statement, MQM chief Altaf Hussain had said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should relinquish the post if he feels that protest demonstration could cause damage to life and property of people.

He said that Nawaz Sharif should transfer these powers to any leader of his party or find any other constitutional way to keep everyone’s dignity intact.

The MQM chief, however, expressed concern over internal issues being faced by the country and asked political leaders to address their differences through dialogue, saying that political parties must avoid any adventurism which may cause loss of human life or financial damage.
