KARACHI: A shopkeeper was shot dead and his two friends were wounded in an attack apparently on sectarian grounds in Sharifabad on Wednesday evening.

Police said that Adeel Abbas, 30, was sitting in his general store in Federal B Area with his two friends when four assailants riding two motorcycles emerged there, opened fire on them and rode away. Abbas died on the spot while his friends — Shahzad and Mansoor — were shifted to a private hospital on Stadium Road for treatment.

The police said that the victims were Shia.

A spokesperson for the Majlis-i-Wahdat-i-Muslimeen said that the victim was a local officer-bearer of their organisation in F.B Area and it was a targeted attack.
