LAHORE: The acting provincial police chief transferred on Sunday Lahore Traffic Police Officer Chief retired Captain Sohail Chaudhry and directed him to report to the Central Police Office.

Punjab police spokesperson Nabeela Ghazanfer confirmed the move, saying the charge was assigned to City division Traffic SP Rana Shujaat Ali. She didn't reveal the reason for the CTO's transfer.

A source privy to the development told Dawn that Mr Chaudhry, who was present at the inauguration of the Azadi Chowk flyover, was made officer on special duty on the orders of the chief minister after he took notice of a traffic blockade on the route of Azadi Chowk.

He claimed the SSP was initially called for interview along with 13 other officers at the Model Town camp office, but later he was asked not to appear before the interview committee formed by the chief minister.

Mr Chaudhry could not be contacted for his comments.
