Model Town tribunal judge receives death threat

LAHORE: Justice Ali Baqar Najafi received a death threat on Saturday through a letter demanding closure of the Lahore’s Model Town case, DawnNews reported.

The letter categorically asked for a withdrawal of the case and threatened to kill Justice Baqar and his family.

On receipt of the threat, the security for the protection of Justice Baqar was increased, with additional personnel of the elite force also deployed at the Lahore High Court (LHC).

Justice Baqar was serving as a judicial commission judge which was formulated to investigate into the incident where Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) supporters broke into a clash with police.

The incident had resulted in the death of 11 people, whereas more than 100 people were injured.

Moreover, during a trial on courts security a few days before, Justice Anwarul Haq also admitted of receiving death threats from militants.

I have never understood why we can't make video conferencing and bullet proof screens like they have in Mexico in place to hide the identity to the Judge including a fictious name... Some how even basic things the govt are unable to put in place. Cameras, CCTV recording and other key items should be in place to secure the premise along with strong visible presence Airport type screen machine should be installed in all key areas where the public is to go to the court... Oh I forget we are talking about incapable people who run the country.... Only looting is the thing they know :)

If the threats are true, I wonder who is going to benefit from the case being dropped. Looks like this government is too scared of the case. I feel amir-ul-momeneen will pay the relatives of the killed to forgive the unknown murderers.

The security of the judge assigned to those who are party in the sad incident.It will be credible if the security of the judge is assigned to the special force of army commandos and not the Showbaz force which is allergy involve in the sad incident. Mind it if any mishappes God forbids then king of Punjab should be held responsible that occurance.
