KARACHI: Attackers managed to flee as a heavy contingent of security forces reached Airport Security Force (ASF) camp number 2, which came under a fresh attack on Tuesday, DawnNews reported. Flight operations resumed after being temporarily suspended, and routes leading to the airport were cleared for traffic, the Civil Aviation Authority said.

The Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the second attack near the Karachi airport. A security sweep and search operation is underway at the ASF academy, which is located in Bhitai Abad, Pehlwan Goth.

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) spokesperson Asim Bajwa posted on Twitter that the "chase is still on". "Three to four terrorists fired near ASF camp, ran away. No breach of fence, no entry.Chase is on, situation under control," he posted, soon after the attack.

Deputy Director General ASK, Colonel Tahir Ali said there were no casualties in the new attack. He also said the the airport is secure at that operations have resumed. He said that two attackers opened fire near the ladies hostel near D gate, which is located behind the ASF camp. "The ASF checkpost is about 100 metres from the scene. We were informed of the incident by our sentry posted there," he said.

The DG ASF in a press conference later cautioned journalists against using the word "hamla" (attack) to describe the latest incident at the ASF camp.

Heavy firing was reported at the ASF camp in the metropolis on Tuesday after unidentified men entered the premises. Initial reports suggest that the number of attackers could be between four and seven.

Following a search operation in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, two suspects have been detained by security forces.

DawnNews reported that explosions were also heard, causing panic among citizens in the vicinity. The Director General of Rangers has reached the site to oversee the operation.

The camp is situated near the Jinnah International Airport which the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) had cleared on Monday after a long battle between security forces and terrorists left 28 dead.

A Twitter account allegedly operated by Omar Khorasani of the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Mohmand faction tweeted on Tuesday claiming that the group has carried out this second attack.

The Twitter account of the CAA, @AirportPakistan tweeted earlier that EK 606 from Dubai which was expected to arrive at Karachi airport at 12:50pm is now returning to Dubai. It also posted that a Shaheen International Airlines flight NL 162 coming from Multan has been sent back. It later posted that flights are now landing and departing from the airport.

This looks as one of the series of attacks of the larger thing that is in minds of the terrorists. One can say the first attack the security forces were not alert....but what now. The indian government has put all the vital installations on high alert. I was watching one of the news channel in india....where defense experts from Pakistan were also part of. One tends to suggest that are we looking forward to a threat to both india and Pakistan. If yes....probably this is the right time when indian and Pakistani army get together to fight them.

Have they run out of Pakistani supporters? A lot of the foreigners have also left North Waziristan. TTP seems to be under the Kosh at the moment, we must not let up.

It's a shame, to see my parents country getting destroyed extremists elements that claim to be waging a Jihad, but are nothing but ignorant men that act more like Shaytaan. All levels of Pakistans security forces including, Police, Army and Intelligence agencies must unite and sweep the entire country for terrorists. My dear Pakistani's If you cannot unite for the sake of your own lives, then do it for the sake of your children. This problem can only be eradicated when every Pakistani, old and young stands united against this evil.

There are plenty of madaris and unfortunately mosques too where they find shelter and support .There is a particular mindset which always find an excuse for all the actions of these terrorist. We have to get rid of those mindsets first. Army cant go to every street. The politicians and civil agencies first need to decide ,get heart and take brave decision. Public awareness is the only way to start some system. Police should start an operation on all the rented apartments and houses in the city. Who rents it and lives there has to be some check and balance. If i am hiring a gatekeeper or a cleaner in my home i should provide his NIC to the police station and his record should be cross checked. Such operations and processes if followed properly pays off at some time.

These incidents are shouting out a huge demand of adapting such systems that we have been ignoring since a long time.

@shibly and all Pakistan military critics, please note that the safety and security of the airports, roads and ASF premises is the responsibility of local police and Airport security force and 34 odd civilian security agencies. not the military...

if these poor civilian personnel can be spared the VIP duties then we wont be looking at the military to come and rescue us. the East Pakistan situation is being created where the entire civilian setup was broken, and army was being asked to do the police work, rescue work, fight the terrorism and defend the borders too. just ask your elected representatives why they need hundreds of police commandos when our airports are left unguarded?

Why no head rolls? Pakistani politicians and establishment stick to thier jobs. They are earning from the country and not serving it. Powerless peoples like me can only say God Bless Pakistan. This is the extent what an ordinary Pakistanis can do. Pakistan Zindabad.

When will the fools in power understand that they have to tell the people that survival of Pakistan is at stake and they are launching a full scale war against these murderers. The people should be mentally prepared to sacrifice like in any other war. Simple rule followed by British, every crime was punished by destruction of the area, and stoppage of all supplies.

Allah have the mercy over Pakistan, but the past & present governments must be criticized for insufficient funding and for not tracing up that investments are made on high-tech solutions. Beyond that PAKMIL can now say that, this is the outcome of the peace process with TTP, even though they are also muslims, thousands cannot terrorize and destroy the land of 185 m. paks.

they came to play a friendly match with asf team. Its a good practice for better vigilance. keep doing this with others also, like Rangers, police, etc.

TTP and associates are doing a great job at various levels. Officially, or, unofficially, assigned the job, by some foreign elements having great influence over, our so called Govt.

Continuous security failures. Seven innocent people died as a direct result of our security forces' callous disregard to the lives of common people. While I salute the bravery of soldiers (all security forces), I also demand that senior security officers must be fired for ineptness and criminal negligence.

There is very little security between Pahlwaan Goth and the airport. A barbed wire fence is not enough. The best option would have been removal of houses from the vicinity but since that is not possible , a wall should be built between the road and the fence. Wall should be electronically secured, with and the fence should be electrified . If Sindh government can spend 100 million in erecting a wall at the Bilawal House , it can certainly spend a few millions to do this. Will it be done ?. Don't think so.

It is abundantly evident that PML-N in the center and PPP in Sind are incompetent and impotent and that they cannot carryout a meaningful operation against Taliban, it is high time that all civilized and liberal people must support a full scale military operation against terrorist and extremist elements throughout the country rather then selective action in certain areas.
