MIRAMSHAH: Hundreds of Tableeghis (preachers) have been stranded in Miramshah owing to imposition of curfew in the area.

The political administration of North Waziristan Agency imposed curfew in the area after a truck carrying paramilitary soldiers struck an improvised explosive device in Ghulam Khan near Afghan border on Thursday, leaving nine soldiers dead and three injured.

The people, who had come from different parts of Fata and adjoining areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Miramshah for attending a three-day Tableeghi congregation, were stranded owing to imposition of curfew, local people said.

The local students also could not appear in intermediate examinations owing to curfew. Shah Zeb, a student, said that they were not allowed to go out and take the papers. Sources said tense calm prevailed in Ghulam Khan subdivision after the explosion. Several families had migrated to Afghanistan, they added.

The migrated people have taken shelter with their relatives in Gurbez area of Afghanistan. According to reports displacement is still underway from the area.

Bannu-Miramshah Road has been closed to traffic and trucks loaded with vegetables and fruits are stranded in Bannu, Mirali and Miramshah.
