LAKKI MARWAT: A proclaimed offender was killed in an encounter with police near Goraka Saeedkhel village in the limits of Ghaznikhel police station here on Wednesday evening, a police source said.

After receiving information about the infiltration of wanted criminals from the adjacent tribal region into the settled parts of the district police tightened security in the border villages,” said the source. He said a police party of Ghaznikhel police station erected blockade near Goraka Saeedkhel and started searching vehicles and individuals.

“In the meanwhile the law enforcers noticed five to six bike riders and signaled them to stop,” he maintained, saying that the motorcyclists violated the signal and opened fire on the police.

“In retaliatory firing one of the motorcyclists was killed and his body was shifted to a local hospital,” said the source.

He said the deceased was later identified as Hameed Khan, a notorious proclaimed offender, who was wanted to police in murder cases.

Meanwhile, the police arrested several wanted criminals and anti-social elements during a search operation in different parts of the district during the last week.

An official said that police backed by commandos of elite force and anti-terrorist squad eliminated hideouts of criminals’ gangs and arrested four notorious proclaimed offenders.

“The law enforcers also captured 16 suspects and 12 anti-social elements and recovered a hand grenade, two Kalashnikovs, four pistols, two shotguns and seven rifles, a repeater and 2,600 grams hashish from them,” he said.

MODERN EDUCATION: The elementary and secondary education department assistant district officer Nisar Mohammad has called upon the teachers to equip the students with modern education so they could meet the future challenges effectively.This he said while speaking at a function in Shaheen Public High School at Marmandi Azeem after inaugurating computer lab on Wednesday. Among others the school's managing director Hidayatulah Khan, principal Zuhaib Khan, parents and elders were in attendance.

Mr Nisar said that well equipped schools could deliver better education to students. He said that computer education was the need of the hour. The ESED official said the country was in dire need of computer literate manpower to achieve the goals of development and progress.

“We will have to focus on science and information technology based education if we want to place our country among the developed nations,” he maintained.

He appreciated the private school’s management for establishing a well-equipped computer laboratory and said that the facility would be helpful for students to get quality computer related education.
