PPP-MQM talks: Rehman Malik says ‘good news’ to come soon

KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Rehman Malik on Friday said talks with leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) had been held in a pleasant and agreeable atmosphere and the nation would receive good news on this end very soon, DawnNews reported.

Speaking to media representatives at the airport in Karachi, Malik stated that PPP and MQM had been in collaboration in the past as well. Malik added that authorities should be worrying about improving the security situation in Karachi and across the country at large.

On a question relating to the ongoing peace talks with the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the PPP leader before departing for Islamabad, said that the government’s good will should not be doubted.

Malik, who is a former federal interior minister, further said that peace talks with the TTP were in favour of the country but cautioned that the Taliban have previously broken various agreements reached with the government.

He also emphasised on establishing and maintaining unity among political forces as a necessary element for the country’s welfare.

On a question relating to renewed discussion on the Abbottabad raid, the PPP leader said that Pakistan was being maligned in this case.

MQM made this mistake about 6 years ago........and they paid for it. The PPP-Z has not changed, so making the same mistake again will compound the damage.

I thought Talks are only going in between TTP and the Govt. I am amazed to read it's happening between years long coalition partners as well. By the way, which ministries are actually shared with MQM? Pakistanioon, stay tuned! we are about to hear 2 good news; 1. from Sami-ul Haq and other from Rehman Malik. wow!

"and the nation would receive good news on this end very soon, DawnNews reported." His only accomplishment as interior minister was that he was the reliable carrier pigeon of Asif A. Zardari. So frequently, he carried messages to MQM supremo Altaf Hussain in London, that it became his full time job. As for the nation hearing good news, we can hardly wait. The coalition between PPP & MQM is unavoidable. MQM can't stay away from the seat of power and PPP can't rule Sindh without MQM . Politics makes strange bedfellows.

I think this will be a good idea. There should be co-operation between PPP & MQM in Sindh for the benefit of the urban & rural peoples. The voters of both the parties should benefit from the fruit of democratically elected govt. MQM is the 2nd largest party in Sindh so what is the harm in co-operation with PPP for the good of its voters.
