CHAKWAL: The Punjab government has finally approved a mega water supply project for Chakwal city, after persistent requests from the local parliamentarians.

This long-awaited and direly needed project was recently approved at the 34th meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party presided over by the chairman, Planning and Development Board, Irfan Elahi.

The Urban Water Supply Scheme Chakwal is a historic project for the city which will cost around Rs580 million.

“We have tried our best to get this project approved,” said MPA Chaudhry Liaquat Ali Khan.

Since many years, Chakwal city has been facing severe water problem. Despite repeated efforts by the local MPAs, the approval of the project kept getting delayed.

The project was also approved during the last tenure of Shahbaz Sharif, on the request of the then MPA Iffat Liaquat, but funds were not released due to some technical reasons.
