MINGORA: More than 0.25 million children below five years of age were on Tuesday vaccinated during the first two days of a three-day anti-polio campaign going on in Swat district.

According to sources in health department, the anti-polio campaign was successfully carried out in all the 65 union councils of district. They added that on the first day on Monday, 0.12 million children were given oral anti-polio drops. The sources said that the health department would achieve its target of vaccinating 0.4 million children during the campaign.

Also in the day, officials of health department and district administration at a joint meeting reviewed arrangements to make the anti-polio drive a success.

The meeting was told that a total of 1,209 teams had been set up to carry out the campaign in all the union councils of district Swat. It was informed that 227 health officials were supervising the campaign.

The meeting was informed that 2,500 personnel were on security duty with polio teams to avoid any untoward incident. The meeting was presided over by Swat assistant commissioner Ashfaq Khan while district health officer Dr Inam and other health officials were also present. — Correspondent
