LARKANA: Silence — the hallmark of Mound of the Dead — returned to Moenjodaro on Sunday after a few days of hectic activity for the fanfare organised as an international event a day earlier when the ruins bathed in colourful lights and reverberated with dance, music and other enthralling performances by artistes.

The event — Sindh Festival — was a fundraiser launched by Bilawal Bhutto. Earlier in the day, labourers dismantled the scaffoldings and removed all lights after the main entrance to the venue was closed to visitors and police were deployed to seal off entire site.

The national heritage site’s curator, Irshad Ridd, who supervised the dismantling process, told Dawn on Sunday that no damage had been caused to the remains of Moenjodaro during the festival.

The curator, staff, tourist guides and the private media were not allowed entry to the event venue. The local media was restricted to a tent pitched away from the stage by the Directorate of Information, Larkana. They were provided with a video link feed and that, too, without sound which did not enable them to watch the mega event directly and report it freely and perfectly.
