Rangers and police forces conducted a joint targeted operation in Kunwari colony of Karachi's Manghopir area early on Thursday during which an exchange of gunfire between suspected terrorists and security forces took place killing two people.

A Rangers spokesman said the two killed in the encounter were members of the proscribed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) who resisted arrest and opened fire when the raiding team reached the area.

He added that the two were killed in retaliatory firing by security forces and also claimed recovering grenades, handguns and other weapons from the men.

The bodies were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in the city.

In another incident, three bodies bearing marks of torture were recovered from Rehrhi Goth area of Karachi's Landhi.

The bodies were later identified as those of gang members who were killed by rival gangsters, according to police sources.
