KARACHI: A 15-year-old girl was killed in a firing incident in Karachi’s Gulistan-i-Jauhar area Saturday whereas at least 19 suspects were arrested in a targeted operation conducted by Rangers’ personnel in different parts of the city, DawnNews reported.

According to the police, unknown gunmen opened fire in Gulistan-i-Jauhar’s Block 12 area, killing the girl and injuring her father.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Ali Asif said the incident occurred when they tried to resist a robbery attempt.

Separately, Rangers’ personnel conducted raids in the areas of Shah Faisal Colony, Landhi and Korangi and arrested 19 suspects.

Karachi, the largest metropolitan city of Pakistan, is riddled with targeted killings, gang wars, kidnappings for ransom, extortion and terrorism. Targeted operations led by Rangers’ forces with the support of police are ongoing in the city under a directive issued by the federal government against criminals already identified by federal, military and civilian agencies.
