ISLAMABAD: Former President Gen (retired) Pervez Musharraf has been asked to inform the police and seek clearance two days prior to any movement in the city, sources in the police told Dawn.

The request was sent to the former president after he was found involved in breaching security measures thrice.

Besides, the authorities concerned also expressed their displeasure over the VVIP protocol Mr Musharraf was given during his movements.

A senior police officer, on condition of anonymity, told Dawn that the former president had moved in the city on a few occasions without taking heed of the security measures.

Quoting one such instance, he said Mr Musharraf left for a private hospital on Saturday night from his farmhouse in Chak Shahzad for dental treatment without informing the police or getting security clearance.

Keeping these instances in view, the official said Mr Musharraf was asked to inform the police two days prior to any moment.

He added that the former president was also asked to avoid unnecessary or unplanned movement.

However, he maintained that there was no restriction on Musharraf’s movement in the city, and the step was taken for his own security.

“Musharraf is not entitled to a VIP protocol, but due to the threats he faces from militant outfits, strict security has been provided,” the official said.

He said roads were cleared and policemen were deployed on the routes just like a VVIP protocol was given.

On the other hand, he said the former president was not pleased to know about the police demands.—Munawer Azeem
