LAHORE, Nov 21: Various teams comprising officials of the city district government, town administrations and police sealed on Thursday 19 steel and other factories for causing environmental pollution in Daroghawala.

The teams conducted 34 raids and got cases registered against 10 factory owners and staffers.

DCO Ahmad Javaid Qazi said there would be no compromise on sealing of factories involved in manufacturing various products through burning of used tyres, rubber waste, black carbon and coal powder.

“The officials should continue sealing such factories and avoid de-sealing these till ensuring installation of standardized weight scribers by factory owners to avoid discharge of poisonous smoke which is injurious to health,” the DCO said while speaking at a meeting held with factory owners.

He asked the owners to seek technical support from the environment department for installation of scribers used in controlling pollution.

Meanwhile, presiding over another meeting, the DCO ordered to launch a crackdown on butchers selling substandard meat across the provincial metropolis.

He asked the CDGL’s livestock and veterinary wings to ensure closure of all unlawful slaughterhouses in the city.

He also appealed to the public to inform the CDGL about the operation of illegal slaughterhouses and sale of substandard meat at a toll-free No 0800-2345.

On the other hand, a CDGL’s public health department team killed on Thursday 270 stray dogs in various towns of the city through poisonous food and gunshots.
