GILGIT, Sept 12: The suspected leader of the death squad which had allegedly killed three security officials was arrested on Thursday.

A police official, who is investigating the murder of an SSP, a colonel and a captain, confirmed that Hameedullah was arrested by security forces from Kohistan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The slain security officials were investigating the murder of 10 foreign climbers at a base camp of Nanga Parbat.

Diamer District SSP Mohammad Navid said the arrested man was suspec-ted to be the leader of the squad which attacked the vehicle carrying the three officials.

He said intelligence agencies helped police to reach the hideout of the key executor of the terror plan which was aimed at sabotaging the investigation into the killing of foreign climbers.

He said with the latest arrest, Diamer police had traced all culprits in the case. A few more arrests would be made, he added.

The alleged killers have been declared activists of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, which claimed responsibility for acts of terror in the region.

The SSP said the arrested man had been brought to Diamer for investigation amid high security.
