IN the recent matches with Zimbabwe, I noticed that a player like Nasir Jamshed, a professional cricketer, dived for a ball at the boundary while fielding in a clumsy manner and then threw the ball back like an amateur.

Shouldn’t the selectors look at the potential in players in all the areas — batting, bowling and fielding — before selection? Our fielding had always remained extraordinary in the past.

A player can only be considered an all-rounder if he is good in all three aspects of cricket: batting, balling and fielding.

However, in Pakistan little attention is given to fielding, as most players give away unnecessary runs while fielding. This is a major cause for losing matches, especially one-day and T-20 matches.

Fielding can only be improved if serious and adequate emphasis is given to the physical fitness of players. Players are often seen undergoing physical sessions but in a non-serious manner. The needed fitness is not reached.

Unless we acquire a decent proficiency in all the fields of the game, we will be considered as an unpredictable team.
