Verdict reserved

LAHORE, July 31: The Lahore High Court reserved on Wednesday verdict in a bail petition of an Ahmadi allegedly involved in a case of distributing books carrying blasphemous material.

Accused Asmatullah submitted through his counsel that the Old Anarkali police had registered a case on Feb 24, 2013, under sections 295-B and 298-C of the PPC against unidentified persons. He said the police later arrested him in the FIR.

The counsel pleaded that his client had no role in the case as he was only an owner of the building from where the police recovered books containing blasphemous stuff.

Advocate Rana Muhammad Tufail was the complainant of the FIR.

The prosecution lawyer told the court that the accused was involved in distribution of literature of the Ahmadi community.

He said on the information of the accused, the police raided two godowns and recovered thousands of tampered copies of the Holy Quran. — Staff Reporter
