GILGIT, July 25: Two suspects having link with a banned organisation were captured and explosives were seized with police claiming that an attempt to attack a mosque had been foiled.

SP Gilgit Mohammad Ali Zia said that upon secret information that terrorists were planning to attack a mosque at Al Sabah Chowk plainclothes personnel were deployed in the area. Two suspects roaming there were spotted and upon on a body search explosives and grenades were found in their possession.

The SP said the suspects were aged around 17 and they belonged to the Asif Chhoto group of the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi group.

He said the youths were students of a madressah in Islamabad and brought to the LJ fold by one Salman, a resident of Peshawar. Salman took them to Miramshah for terrorism training.

After their training they were brought to Gilgit to bomb the mosque, the SP said, adding the grenade had been provided to them by a local arms dealer who had been taken into custody.
