ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court took suo motu notice on Monday of the appointment of Salman Farooqui as the federal ombudsman.

Mr Farooqui was appointed acting ombudsman in December by the then prime minister Raja Parvez Ashraf.

The notice was taken on an application moved by Syed Adil Gilani, adviser to Transparency International Pakistan.

The matter will be fixed before a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Tuesday along with a petition filed by senior PML-N leader Khwaja Mohammad Asif, who has already challenged transfers and posting of senior bureaucrats by the caretaker government.
