PESHAWAR, May 29: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa advocate general Khalid Khan has resigned citing personal reasons and sent his resignation to the governor for approval.

Official sources said Mr Khalid had tendered resignation a few days ago.

They said the advocate general had been asked by the relevant authorities to continue until the new government was formed in the province.

Recently, additional advocates general Fazalur Rehman Khan and Ahmad Farooq Khattak and deputy advocates general Barrister Waqar and Rafiq Mohmand had also resigned.

They all were appointed by the last Awami National Party and Pakistan People’s Party-led provincial government.

Mr Khalid, a senior lawyer, was appointed as advocate general on Aug 16, 2012.

There is a likelihood that several additional advocates general and deputy advocates general appointed by the last government will step down instead of waiting for the next government to terminate their services.

There are reports about infighting among members of Insaaf Lawyers Forum (ILF), the lawyers’ wing of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, which is set to form the next government in the province, over the nomination for future law ministries.

One ILF group held its election three days ago and named office-bearers without the approval of the party’s central and provincial leadership, while another met nominated chief minister Pervez Khattak to request him to consider the names of PTI-affiliated lawyers for appointment as law officers.
