KASUR, Sept 15: Villagers got a murder accused released from custody after a scuffle with policemen here on Saturday at Malanwala in the limits of city Pattoki police station.
Two constables suffered injuries when the villagers attacked the police party.
A Warburton (Nankana Sahib) police team, headed by ASI Ameer Ali, raided Malanwala village of Kasur district to arrest murder accused Muhammad Akram of Chak no. 13, Sharqpur Sharif (Sheikhupura). Police arrested the accused at village bazaar.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Riaz, who had harboured Akram, along with 80 villagers had a scuffle with the police party and got the accused released. Two constables Amir Shahzad and Ali Raza sustained minor injuries. Akram was wanted in a case no. 256/11 under section 302 and 148/149 of PPC.
Later, the villagers staged a protest demonstration against lawlessness and blocked Multan Road near Malanwala bypass. They claimed that robbers wearing police uniform tried to kidnap their ‘guest’ Akram.
When the local police reached the spot, villagers managed their escape. However, police arrested six people, including Muhammad Aslam.
On Saturday evening, local police filed a case no. 550/12 against 28 suspects, including 18 nominated ones.
