ISLAMABAD, Oct 19: An accused car snatcher approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) for his production and speedy trial in the district and sessions court Islamabad.

Iftikhar Khan was allegedly involved in 13 car snatching cases registered in Kohsar and Margalla police stations but was kept behind bars in Peshawar central jail since 2005 after his arrest from Peshawar.

Mohammad Shahzad Siddique, counsel for the petitioner told the court that the cases against the petitioner had been pending for the last six years and there was no progress at all even in a single case registered against him.

He said that petitioner repeatedly requested the judicial magistrate of Islamabad for his production in the cases.

On which the judicial magistrate also wrote to authorities concerned in this regard but the matter was still pending.

He said the speedy trial of the cases was the right of the petitioner and requested for petitioner's production from Peshawar central jail to the Islamabad sessions court for trial.

The IHC Chief Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman took up the petition filed by the accused.
