LAHORE, Sept 6: Wahdat Colony Station House Officer Hamid Mahmood was arrested and booked on Tuesday after three car thieves escaped from police custody.
DIG Operations Ghulam Mahmood Dogar, who suspended the SHO from service, ordered registration of a case after Iqbal Town division SP Muntazir Mehdi held him responsible for helping the suspects – Sohail, Yahya and Nisar -- escape from the lock-up.
Police sources told Dawn that Inspector Hamid had two weeks ago released three motorbike thieves -- Imran, Mumtaz and Dastgir -- after receiving Rs0.7 million from them.
The officer was confined in the lock-up after registration of a case against him.
MYSTERIOUS DEATH:
A 14-year-old girl died of food poisoning at a private hospital in Manawan on Tuesday.
Police said Iqra and her father Allah Ditta, who took some poisonous substance at home in Marl Mari village, were shifted to a private hospital where the girl died.
However, police said Allah Ditta escaped from the hospital.
Police said a post-mortem examination would be carried out to determine the cause of death.
