KARACHI, Sept 5: As the city reeled from the last month’s scariest experience of deadly violence that left Karachiites traumatised, witnessing body bags almost everyday for nearly a week, the brutal trend reemerged on Monday when two more bodies — including that of a political worker — were found stuffed in gunny bags in separate areas, police said. In one case, they said, the victim was chopped into pieces and the investigators could only find human remains in a gunny bag in Orangi Town.

“It’s an area in Sector 14-B where the suspicious bag was found in a garbage dump,” said Inspector Muhammad Zubair, the SHO of the Pakistan Bazaar police station. “The bag, which is normally used for sugar packing, carried a victim who was brutally killed, having no head, hands and legs. He was covered only with a white shalwar.”

He said there was a gunshot wound on the body, which was later shifted to the Edhi morgue after medico-legal formalities at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for want of identification.

In the other incident, the body of an intermediate student was found stuffed in a gunny bag. The police said the victim stuffed in the bag was found near apartment buildings in Scheme 33 within the remit of the Sachal police station.

“The bag was found near Yasir Apartment and Country Heights in Scheme 33,” said Inspector Azhar Iqbal, the SHO of the Sachal police station. “The police reached the spot in 10 to 15 minutes after the incident was reported and the suspicious bag was found. The victim was later identified in the evening as Mushtaq, in his early 20s.”

He said the victim was a second-year student in a government college in Gulzar-i-Hijri and was associated with the Pakhtun Students Federation –– the student wing of the Awami National Party. The victim was a resident of Scout Colony off Abul Hasan Ispahani Road.

Though the police remained clueless about the motive and people behind the killing, a spokesman for the ANP said the victims was ‘targeted’ only for his political association.

The body of a man was found in the Garden area. The area police said the body was found near Shoe Market, neighbouring Usmanabad, and it had torture marks. The body seemed to be more than a week old and could not be identified, said an official at the Garden police station.

Several held in ‘targeted actions’ Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) have arrested ‘several’ suspects in ‘targeted actions’ in different areas of the city, a statement said on Monday.

“Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) during last 48 hours conducted targeted actions against criminals in different areas,” it said.

“The areas included Pahar Gang North Nazimabad, Jahanabad, Al-Raheem Goth, Dak Khana Chowrangi, Liaquatabad No. 6 and Godhra New Karachi. Several suspects were arrested and some 36 weapons were recovered.”

Giving details of the seized items, it said the paramilitary troops seized five AK-47s, two 7mm rifles, a 222 rifle, a 12-bore rifle, four 12-bore shotguns, four 9mm pistols, nine 30-bore pistols, seven TT pistols, a 7.65mm pistol, two revolvers, 634 rounds and four motorcycles.
