Man killed

CHAKWAL, Aug 22: A man reported to police on Monday that a group of persons pulled his son out of his van and shot him dead.

Munaver Hussain, a resident of Dhariala Kahoon village in tehsil Choa Syedan Shah, said that his son Zaffar Hussain’s van was stopped by Izharul Hassan, Fakharul Hassan, Adeebul Hassan and Waqar. They allegedly forcibly took his son out of the van and opened fire at him. Hussain died on the way to hospital. Meanwhile, in another incident a man was shot at by two unknown youngsters. — Correspondent

Security steps for banks

ISLAMABAD, Aug 22: The capital police have taken various security measures for banks in consultation with their administration to counter robberies.

In a meeting here on Monday, the Inspector General of Police Bani Amin Khan asked bank officials to install CCTV cameras and security alarm in their banks. They were also advised to deploy at least two trained gunmen in each bank.

Mr Khan said proper security cover should be provided to the vehicle carrying money from one bank to the other and install ATM away from the bank to minimise the possibility of robberies.

Meanwhile, the IGP also held a meeting with the office-bearers of various housing societies and discussed with them security arrangements in their areas. The IGP asked them to install barriers and introduce pass system to check incoming and outgoing vehicles.— Staff Reporter

Warning to pranksters

RAWALPINDI, Aug 22: Rescue 1122 on Monday warned that it would initiate legal action against obnoxious callers as the practice was depriving the real victims of help in emergency situations.

The rescue service in a statement issued here said that it has so far received nearly two million irrelevant calls at the emergency number 1122 including some 537,623 calls from girls, 462,705 from boys, 32,437 from kids, 2,460 musical calls, 5,1450 abusing calls and 1,560 were obnoxious calls.

“However still unwanted callers continue to call our service and we have been compelled to take necessary legal action which includes imprisonment for six months or a fine of Rs50,000 or both,” Director General Rescue 1122 Dr Rizwan Naseer said.— Our Reporter

Floral world show

ISLAMABAD, Aug 22: Floral Art Society of Pakistan held its meeting on Monday in which participants of Floral world show, that took place in Boston in June this year, shared their experiences, says a press release.

Floral Art Society of Pakistan is affiliated with the World Association of Flower Arrangers ( WAFA). It has membership of 35 countries. A floral world show is held every three years in one of the member countries. Pakistan has been successfully participating and competing in all the 10 world shows. This year too 40 members of the Floral Art Society from Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar and Karachi competed and 22 won different awards.

As many as 14 participants including prize winners from Islamabad were recognised and lauded. Humaira Baber ( 1st prize) Waqarunnisa Boolani (2nd prize) Anjum Muddasar and Shandana Bangash shared their experiences.
