One killed in accident

TAXILA, July 13: One person was killed and three others injured including one minor after a speeding dumper rammed into a Suzuki van here on Taxila-Hattar road near Heavy Mechanical Complex on Wednesday.

Police and rescue sources said that the dumper (KPK- 8118) hit the Suzuki van (RIU-374) coming from Abbotabad killing Fazal Hussain, 58, on spot while Bushra Bibi, Kinza Bibi and a minor Ahsan Ali received critical injuries. — Correspondent

Odho’s bail confirmed

RAWALPINDI, July 13: Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) on Wednesday confirmed the bail of TV artist and central office-bearer of former President Pervez Musharraf’s All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) Atiqa Odho in liquor case against the surety bonds of Rs50,000.

Earlier, the ADSJ Mohammad Iqbal Chaddar granted interim bail to Atiqa the till July 13 and directed her to submit surety bonds of Rs50,000, which she submitted before the court on July 11 through her lawyer Asad Munir Advocate. The judge also asked the authorities concerned to present the record of the case.

During the proceeding, the authorities presented the case record before the judge. Counsels of both sides argued and the judge confirmed the bail of Atiqa Odho who was also present in the courtroom.

Ms Odho was briefly detained by Airport Security Forces (ASF) at Benazir Bhutto International Airport after two liquor bottles were recovered from her luggage.— A Reporter

Constable booked

ATTOCK, July 13: Fatehjang Police have arrested a police constable on the charge holding illegal weapon and restoring to firing in the air during his duty at a oil exploration company near Durnol village, it has been learnt.

The police have registered a case against Maqsood Ahmed and further investigations are underway.

According to sources, the constable had purchased a pistol and was trying it ignoring the fact that the weapon was without license and that he was performing a guard duty at the sensitive Oil & Gas installation where some foreign technicians were working. — Correspondent

Land dispute victims buried

TAXILA, July 13: The four people who were gunned down over a land dispute in the outskirts of Taxila over land dispute were buried in their ancestral graveyard amid tears and moving scenes.

Earlier, their bodies were brought to their respective houses after their autopsy at THQ hospital Taxila later on Tuesday.

According to police, slain Arif Mehmmod was army man and visiting home on vacations. There was an uneasy calm in the area as residents feared that the relatives of the two slain brothers might take revenge to settle the score. — Correspondent

Locomotive breaks down

ATTOCK, July 13: Locomotive of a Multan-bound express broke down in a tunnel between Jhamat and Ujri railway stations on Attock-Kundian section on Wednesday, leaving a large number of passengers stranded on the track some 80 km off Attock.

Railway sources said that engine of 130-Down Thal express developed some fault when it was passing through the tunnel over a hilly terrain. As a result, passenger particularly women and children faced great problem due to hot, humid weather and darkness, the sources said.

However, almost all passengers disembarked from the train and reached Jhamat Railway station after covering three km on foot as there was no road facility at the hilly terrain. In the meantime, the railway authorities dispatched engine to the site and later the train departed for its destination after about five hours delay.— Correspondent
