Man kills abducted daughter

ATTOCK, July 5: A man killed his daughter after the police failed to take action against her alleged abductors in a village here.

However, after the killing of the girl, the police arrested the investigating officer (IO) besides registering an abduction case against two men identified as Qaisar Iqbal and Mohammad Naseer.Police sources said Gul Naz Bibi, 20, daughter of Ameer Afzal, had been abducted from Badri village on July 2. Her father reported the matter to the Sadder police for legal action against the accused and recovery of his daughter.

However, instead of going after the accused, the police asked the complainant to produce solid evidence to prove his allegations. On July 3, parents of the abductors handed over the girl to her father with a warning not to pursue the case. In the meantime, the police also pressured the girl’s father to patch up with the accused.

Fed up with the police attitude and feeling embarrassment over the incident; Mr Afzal shot his daughter dead in his house on Sunday night and escaped. — Correspondent

Woman burnt alive

RAWALPINDI, July 5: A woman was burnt alive as fire erupted in her house in Chontra area due to gas leakage on Tuesday, police said.

Asmat Bibi, mother of two was cooking meal when all of a sudden the fire erupted due to the gas leaking from the cylinder and she was trapped in the flames.

Meanwhile, a married woman was raped by a gang of four persons in Sadar Barooni police area on Tuesday, police said. — Staff Reporter

More rains from tomorrow

ISLAMABAD, July 5: The second spell of monsoon is likely to lash the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad and other parts of the country from Thursday for two to three days.

According to a spokesman for the Met Office, the weather is expected to remain dry in most parts of the country on Wednesday; however, isolated rain/thundershower is expected at a few places of Kashmir and adjoining areas of northern parts of Punjab.

More monsoon currents are likely to penetrate into the upper parts of the country and lower Sindh from Thursday. Scattered rains with isolated heavy falls expected in Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir from Thursday to Saturday.

He said the first spell of monsoon rain/dust thundershower is also expected in lower Sindh on Thursday/Friday. — A Reporter

SI gets six months jail

RAWALPINDI, July 5: A police sub-inspector was arrested after an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Tuesday sentenced him to six months imprisonment for not producing ten accused before the court in a doctors-attendants clash case.

ATC-I Judge Akram Awan also issued a show cause notice to SHO of New Town police. In a doctors-attendants clash at the Holy Family Hospital on May 12, five doctors were injured and the Intensive Care Unit was damaged.

During the last hearing, the judge had ordered the police to present the accused before the court. However, the accused – Abid Abbasi and others nominated in an FIR lodged by doctors – were not presented before the court.

When the judge inquired about the accused, Sub-Inspector Mohammad Zulfiqar said they were in Peshawar, adding that the police were trying to bring them before the court.

The judge said the court had been asking for producing the accused for the last two hearings, but regretted that the police come up with the excuse that they were making efforts.

He sentenced Sub-Inspector Zulfiqar for six months behind the bars and imposed Rs20,000 fine. The judge also issued a show cause notice to SHO Ijaz Shah for not obeying the court orders deliberately under section 37 of Anti-Terrorism Act 1997. The SHO was given two days for submitting his reply as the hearing was put off till July 7. — A Reporter
