PESHAWAR, July 1: The Peshawar High Court on Friday allowed bail to two women including a 70-year-old widow in a case of drug pushing.
A single bench comprising Chief Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan directed the two petitioners, Ms Sakina and Ms Maryam, to furnish two sureties of Rs300,000 each.
The petitioners were arrested by the officials of Sarband police station here on May 20, 2011. The police alleged that each of the women were carrying 5kg charas. They were charged under section 9 of the Control of Narcotics Substance Act, 1997. Meanwhile, another bench of the high court comprising Justice Dost Mohammad Khan granted bail to a juvenile offender charged with murder of another boy.
The boy, Shahbaz Khan, was accused of killing one of his neighbours, Waqas, in the jurisdiction of Chamkani police station on Dec 2, 2008. The deceased had recorded his dying declaration wherein he stated that the petitioner had fired at him.
Advocate Nasrun Minallah appeared for the petitioner and stated that the trial court had recorded the age of the petitioner as 16 years, which meant that at the time of occurrence he was 14. He added that under the Juvenile Justice System Ordinance the petitioner should be treated as a juvenile and was entitled to be set free on bail.—Bureau Report
