KARACHI, May 3: Judicial magistrates on Tuesday extended the police remand of a rummy club bombing suspect till May 11 in four cases pertaining to explosives, illicit weapons and an encounter with police.

Following the end of his physical remand, the CID police produced him before a judicial magistrate in Malir district courts in three cases registered under Sections 353 (criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 324 (attempt to commit qatl-i-amd) of the Pakistan Penal Code and 13-D and 13-A of Arms Ordinance and sought extension in his remand.

In another case registered under Sections 4 and 5 of the Explosives Substance Act, the suspect was produced before a magistrate in the judicial complex set up in Central Prison.

It is worth noting here that the suspect was already in CID custody on physical remand till May 11 in the main case related to the rummy club blast that left 22 people dead and many others injured last month.

Targeted killings

A judicial magistrate on Tuesday extended the physical remand of four targeted killings suspects in two cases till May 8.

The CID police claimed to have arrested Liaquat Bangash, Faizan Mohammad, Arshad Khan, Mohammad Azeem and Liaquat Yousafzai after an encounter in a Gulistan-i-Jauhar area on April 25. The police said they also seized unlicensed weapons found in the suspects' custody.

Two cases were registered against them under Sections 353 (criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 324 (attempt to commit qatl-i-amd) and 34 (common intention) of the PPC and 13-D of the Arms Ordinance.

The CID police produced the suspects before a judicial magistrate (central) and requested the court to extend their remand, suspecting that they were wanted in around 100 cases, including those of targeted killings, land grabbing and extortion.
